The 1200 Cal non-vegetarian diet chart is almost identical to the vegetarian diet with the exception of eggs, chicken and fish that are included in breakfast, lunch and dinner. “However, keep in mind that calories still count, especially if you’re looking to drop a few pounds,” says Christine Gerbstadt, MD, RD, the author of Doctor’s Detox Diet: The Ultimate Weight Loss Prescription. “If you’re increasing protein intake, you need to cut back elsewhere.”
Another way to assess progress is to take measurements. Using a cloth tape measure, measure around the chest, waist, hip, and thigh once every one to two weeks. Measurements should decrease as you lose fat. Neither of these methods will tell you how much body fat has been lost, but they can show that you are moving in the right direction.
Pinterest and Instagram are both filled with gorgeous photos of decadent desserts and ooey-gooey macaroni and cheese recipes, and while it may be fun to dream about eating them, they may be wrecking your diet. People who exercise while listening to music exercise longer and more vigorously than those who don’t. Why? Because cranking up tunes distracts you from fatigue, allowing you to rack up more workout time (and burn more fat in the process).
Meeting your protein requirements in your diet is especially important when you increase your activity level. Not only does this macro help your body build and maintain muscle mass, it may help to facilitate weight loss, and can increase your feelings of fullness.5 So while you may associate a protein shake primarily with getting bigger, it can be just as important an ally when weight loss is the goal!

Embracing a healthy lifestyle means cutting out some things you might have taken for granted, like after-work happy hours with coworkers or weekend brunches with friends. But there’s no reason your social life has to suffer.

Hi Haley, glad to hear you loved it! 🙂 Yes, just continue on to the more difficult exercise plan from where you left off. There’s no need to start from the beginning. To make things more difficult, you can also start changing the upper, lower and total body workout routines to make them more challenging. So instead of increasing how long you’re exercising to make it more difficult, just make the workouts more difficult. Plus, your body will get used to the workout routine after about 12 weeks. So even just changing the exercises you’re doing would be new and unusual for your body, making the new exercises more challenging. This will help you avoid a fitness or weight loss plateau, and help you to keep getting great results in terms of calorie burning, muscle strength and fitness, for a toned, strong body!
What to drink: Water & tea. If you cannot go without coffee, limit it to one cup a day using stevia and only a little bit of low-fat milk or almond milk. Drink a glass of water first thing in the morning and before each meal to stay well hydrated and keep you from overeating.
Lifestyle and work habits partially determine how many calories we need to eat each day. Someone whose job involves heavy physical labor will naturally burn more calories in a day than someone who sits at a desk most of the day (a sedentary job). For people who do not have jobs that require intense physical activity, exercise or increased physical activity can increase the number of calories burned.
Also keep in mind that instead of using ounces, grams and other metrics, we prefer to use the simplest metric possible: the size of your hand. For example, for women we recommend one palm-sized portion of chicken.
If you get really interested in strength training, you may find that the number on the scale goes up instead of down because your muscle mass is increasing. Remember, the scale doesn’t always tell the whole story, so pay attention to the mirror, how you feel, and how you are performing in your workouts.
