I have a question about substitutions. I notice that Ezekiel bread is an option in the morning but not listed as a possible carb at the bottom of the meal plan. Are we allowed to use bread or a wrap or pita as a carb instead? Also, I love cheese and try and avoid it, but I find it very difficult. Am I able to have 1 serving of cheese if I do not eat the Greek yogurt as an option that day? I’m sorry if these are dumb questions, I just want to make the smartest choices 🙂

Simple carbs like white rice, sugar, white flour, soda, fruit juices and baked goods are the ones that make you fat. Complex carbohydrates such as brown rice, wheat flour, beans, lentils, legumes, fruits and vegetables aid in weight loss. Proteins are necessary for increasing muscle mass, and the best low saturated fat natural sources of protein are egg whites and low-fat dairy.

“When going out for fast food, I used to get the large-size value meal. Now, I satisfy a craving by ordering just one item: a small order of fries or a six-piece box of chicken nuggets. So far, I’ve shaved off 16 pounds in seven weeks, and I’m on track to being thinner than my high school self for my 10-year reunion later this year.” —Miranda Jarrell, Birmingham, AL

Sure, leggings are way more comfortable than pants, and you can even get away with wearing them to work these days. Thing is, that expandable waistline makes you more prone to overeating. If you’re going to rock yoga pants all day, consider pairing them with a belted tunic. The belt will prompt you to slow down and think about how you’re feeling during a meal.

Just one pear packs 15% of your daily recommended amount of fiber. One study found that women who ate three pears a day consumed fewer calories and lost more weight than those who didn’t. Ditch the peeler though; the skin is where all that filling fiber is hiding!

Thank you for your response. I do agree the Mediterranean diet & Dash are healthy & sound, but I also think it’s important for people to change their habits, vs. “going on a diet” — whether you eat 5 servings of fruits and veggies a day, with a small amount of healthy fat, plenty of protein and good, whole grains, OR you eat McDonald’s value meals four times a day, they are both considered someone’s “diet.”

When you’re trying to lose weight, the scale can be deceiving. That’s because it doesn’t take into account that you are probably adding muscle. So even though you’re making progress, the number on your scale might not budge (or it could even go up), which can be defeating.

I entered my information into the calculator and it says I need to eat almost 2700 calories to maintain my current weight. Currently I eat about 2200 calories and eat clean. I haven’t lost any weight from the calorie differential.

Even though grains have been promoted as healthy starches, consuming them is one of the fastest ways to pack on the pounds. Plus as you probably know by now, the gluten found in most grains can increase inflammation in your body and put a strain on your digestive system. And store-bought bread often has added high fructose corn syrup, sugar and preservatives.

“Certain over-the-counter medications, like antacids or NSAIDs (such as Advil) can disrupt your gut bacteria just the way antibiotics can. That can lead to inflammation and, over time, weight gain.” — Tasneem Bhatia, MD, author of  The 21-Day Belly Fix

When picking these up at the supermarket, go for the fat-free or low-fat options. You’ll get all of the protein and calcium + Vitamin D, with less kilojoules. Not only have these foods been shown to assist in losing abdominal fat, they help to preserve and build lean muscle mass—essential for keeping your fat-burning metabolism firing on all cylinders.

Make only one meal. Instead of making something high-cal for the family and low-cal for yourself, get everyone on the same healthy-eating page. Weight loss and maintenance is easier when everyone’s eating the same thing — and you’re not tempted to taste someone else’s calorie-dense food.

“Your goals have to be bigger than your ego. Most people fail because their goals aren’t big enough. Make sure that your reason for losing weight is enough to drive you to work past your pride and personality, otherwise you’ll eventually get to a point where you either get complacent and stop working as hard or just say why bother,” explains Taylor, who recently appeared on A+E’s “Fat2Fit.”

If knowing that your body is thanking you for making healthier choices isn’t enough (and that’s ok!), treat yourself — but don’t tie these “rewards” to food. For instance, if you worked out five days each week for the entire month, splurge on that new tennis racquet you’ve been wanting or indulge in a manicure or pedicure. You’ve earned it!

Hi Jane. Good question! The thing with any and every packaged foods is that they will never be as good for your body as natural real food is. In many cases, there are additional ingredients in Greek yogurt that make it so creamy – these ingredients are not all natural and all that good for you to begin with. If you love yogurt, I would suggest going for an organic natural kind (low-fat isn’t necessary – fat will not make YOU fat and usually when packaged foods contain less fat they contain more of other ingredients that aren’t healthy, ex. sweeteners). I would use fruit and nuts for the extra sweetness and crunch. In my opinion, Greek yogurt should not be eaten multiple times a day if your goal is to be healthy and loose weight, it’s just not a superfood like it claims to be! In my experience, the best way to lose fat and feel energized is to stick to REAL food and stay active (and have fun along the way)! Hope this helps a bit 😉

As a diabetic, I know how food can be the most important factor in affecting the sugar levels. And when Truweight’s nutritionists took my diabetes condition as a priority and planned my meals accordingly, I knew I am eating the right foods. It is now over a year that I am having Truweight’s superfoods and have been maintaining my sugar levels. I would say give the superfoods a chance. I am happy and healthy today because of these.

Decreases cholesterol levels: Studies in diabetic and normal rats and mice found that it increased HDL (the “good”) cholesterol. It also reduced LDL (the “bad”) cholesterol and triglycerides (22, 23, 24).

“These diets are so restrictive that of course you’re going to lose weight fast because you’re not eating enough calories to sustain basic activities of your body, let alone any exercise. That’s nothing that any person can sustain for the long term,” Hogan said. “The weight’s going to come back if you do lose any weight, and then it’s going to be harder to lose weight in the future.”

You have to wash the foods thoroughly to make sure that germs are removed perfectly. Raw food diets are frequently associated with food-borne illness. Care must be taken in handling foods like raspberries, sprout, green onions, and lettuce.

Each year brings with it new diets, each claiming to be the solution to your weight loss dilemmas. The key is not to get swept up in the hype. What worked last year still works now; the fundamentals of losing weight don’t change, only peoples perceptions. That said, my recommendation of The 3 Week Diet (read the review here) remains steadfast as one of the best choices for women looking to slim down quickly and safely.
